At this point in the pandemic, a lot of people are vacation-fatigued. Vacation fatigue is the new term that describes the feeling of being tired of being in a lockdown and wanting to travel somewhere, anywhere at all. After over a year of being in a lockdown, people all over the world are starting to be anxious and looking forward to their next vacation and New Yorkers are not excluded. New Yorkers latest vacation obsession? Puerto Rico.

There are many reasons why New Yorkers love San Juan, Puerto Rico. These are only a few of them.

1.) You do not need a passport to visit

Puerto Rico is a United States territory and for this reason, Americans enjoy certain access privileges to Puerto Rico and vice versa. People visiting Puerto Rico from America do not need a passport to visit, they just need to show a government identification, like a Drivers License and they're good to go.

2.) It's a direct flight from New York City

Direct flights make a world of difference. Instead of dealing with the hassles that come with layovers, you can go straight to your destination and for New Yorkers, this is the case when going to San Juan, Puerto Rico. You can catch a four-hour direct flight from one of New York City airports through airlines like Frontier Airlines and you're good to go.

3.) Puerto Rico uses the USD

Another great advantage that New Yorkers have when visiting Puerto Rico is that you can spend the USD without worrying about exchange rates or their associating fees. It's relatively easy to navigate and all you have to do is pack your bags and go. That's it.

4.) You wouldn't need to show a COVID-19 test on your return

While it is recommended that you do a test before returning back to the US from Puerto Rico, it is not mandatory - this is because Puerto Rico is classified as a United States territory so it is almost like you never left the country. You do need to produce one prior to entry into the islands, but it is not required on your return back home to New York and that can be a big weight off the shoulders of people who can't get access to a COVID test easily.

5.) It's a nice change of scenery

San Juan is a relatively easy vacation to make and of course it is a welcome change in scenery from the usual New York escapades. The colorful cobblestone streets, the vibrant culture, delicious food and friendly people is a sharp contrast to the dull, regular pace of New York and one that many people will welcome with open arms.
