It's not everyday you see a cafe in New York that is owned by a Black woman while casually walking through the streets, but Allison Dunn, a Jamaican and owner of Hibiscus Brew, has everything to be proud of. New York has some really trendy cafes and there's a new addition located in Brooklyn that's worth visiting. It's called Hibiscus Brew.

Hibiscus Brew - A Pandemic Success Story

While many people unfortunately lost their jobs or businesses when the pandemic hit, Allison of Hibiscus Brew made the brave choice of starting her own coffee shop business and opening up in the summer of 2020, right in the middle of it.

While we know it seems like a weird time to start a new business – we know this. We love this community and feel like feeding it though this unprecedented time just makes sense! - Allison

You can't be surprised by her bold move, with a background in marketing and experience in Product Marketing, Allison was made for a challenge this big and also has all it takes to make it worth the risk.

Brightening up Brooklyn

Adorned with pink decor and a vibrant ambiance, Hibiscus Brew surely brightens up the sometimes gloomy atmosphere in Brooklyn, New York. As great as the ambiance looks though, it is nothing compared to the actual offerings and menu of the cafe. They have a lot of dreamy pastries, healthy smoothies and more. From Black Panther smoothies with blueberries, banana, sorrel and agave to espresso and green juices, this is the place to get your feel of fresh and healthy food and of course, photo worthy opportunities.

Fusing the Jamaican heritage with the New York hustle.

Jamaican-born Allison came to pursue the American dream. Jamaicans are known for their go-getter attitude, fighting spirit and vibrant culture and she sure brings that to the table with her cafe. If you're looking for a new cafe to visit in New York City, definitely stop by at Hibiscus Brew.

Location: 546 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, New York

Must try: Sorrel smoothie. Sorrel is a Jamaican drink, a fusion of the owner's heritage.
