Six Movies and Shows to Watch to Itch your Travel Bug

Jessica Ufuoma

Many of us are missing travel right now; the thrill that comes from a new adventure, learning something new, eating the local food, or simply just escaping. While we may not be able to travel yet, we can keep the travel spirit alive and well for when it's okay to be on the road again. Movies are a great way to travel from our couch and get a taste of the travel feels. Here are a few you should totally be watching!

1.) Eat Pray Love

This 2010 movie is still a classic! The main character, Julia Roberts, gets a heartwrenching divorce and decides it's a good time to get away. She then embarks on a spiritual journey across the world to rediscover herself. If you haven't yet seen this, now is a great time. You'll be dreaming of Indonesia, Italy, and India in no time.

2.) Last Holiday

Ever wanted to 'fire your boss', quit your job, and go on your dream vacation? Well, Georgia does that in this movie. After being so frustrated at her job, she ups and leaves and checks into the beautiful resort of her fantasies.

3.) Queen of Katwe

This movie is based on a true-life story and is set in Uganda. Phiona's life takes a turn when she meets Robert Katende who teaches her the game of chess. This presented an opportunity to escape a poverty-filled life.

4.) Parts Unknown

I dare say this is the ultimate wanderlust show. The late Anthony Bourdain generously shares his adventure around the world as he tries new food and immerses himself in a new culture. In 11 seasons, he takes us through parts of Tanzania, Punjab, Copenhagen, Cuba, only to name a few. If this show doesn't leave you wanting more travel in the future, I don't know what will.

5.) Wild

When things goes south, go on a solo hike, and that's exactly what Cheryl did. She hikes thousands of miles along the Pacific Crest Trail all alone. She encounters some difficulty along the way and finds the courage to work her way through, and discovers herself along the way. This movie is sure to inspire your next solo trip.

6.) Emily in Paris

Probably the newest release in this article, Emily in Paris quickly became a Netflix favorite. Emily packs her bags and leaves her boyfriend and life in New York for new adventures in Paris. This show shines the light on the beauty of Paris and makes everyone want to go there next summer.
