By mid-afternoon on the July 4 holiday, the Las Vegas police were investigating their third homicide of the day. The article as reported by Sabrina Schnur of the Las Vegas Review-Journal opens as follows:
A man was fatally shot Saturday night in the west valley, marking the third homicide of the day investigated by Las Vegas police. Officers were called at 9:50 p.m. to the 6600 block of West Charleston Boulevard, near South Rainbow Boulevard, according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jesse Roybal. They found a man in the parking lot with a gunshot wound, according to a Sunday news release. He was taken to University Medical Center, where he died, police said. Police did not have a motive or suspect as of Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday morning, homicide detectives were investigating an argument that left one man fatally shot and a body found inside a home near central Las Vegas.
The original article has more details on all the other cases. The piece ends with a request that anyone with information about the cases is asked to call Metro’s homicide section at 702-828-3521. Or, if they need to remain anonymous, they may call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
These murders fall in line with the over all rise in homicides in Las Vegas. As 8 News Now reported in early March, murders were on the rise from 2020 to 2021 at a 110% increase. By March 23, 2020, there were only 10 murders reported in Las Vegas. The number reported for 2021 by the March 23 date was 21.
