Before heading up to Carson City I checked the Yelp pages to create a list of restaurants that we had to be sure to check out. The Basil was top of the list. Thai food is my favorite cusine, and I love basil so this whole thing sounded just about perfect!
From their website:
Carson City Thai Food Gets Creative
The Basil is a Carson City Thai food favorite rooted in tradition, creativity and taste. Every plate is artistically made using techniques originating in Thailand, the home-country of all six owners. The menu takes pride in regional traditions and reflects varying cooking styles and flavors. Carson City Thai Food may be near by, but every recipe will take you far away.
Carson City Thai is Spiced Right
The Basil uses high-quality meats, fresh vegetables and healing herbs throughout the dishes to promote not only good taste, but good health. Our food connects us to our home, and we want to share that with you. Try authentic Pad Thai from The Best Noodles menu. Enjoy our Coconut Soup slowly simmered to perfection. The Ginger Duckling and Teriyaki Salmon are true classics in our own kitchens.

The Basil was downtown, right on Carson Street. We walked to it after our stroll through the park and the splash pad. The smell was enticing almost immediately upon entrance and the restaurant was full of happy customers enjoying the lunch specials. We came in at noon exactly.
We were seated and brought soup - just like that! The soup was delicious - cabbage and broth, so good and healing. I could have eaten just the soup! My daughter and I ordered the same thing - we just do that sometimes - the Yellow Curry with chicken lunch special and we split a Thai Iced Coffee.
That Thai Iced Coffee was brilliant - cold, delicious, sweet and energizing. And when our meals came we felt healed - they are not kidding around about the unique blend of spices and ingredients, and the care they put into their meals. It was the best yellow curry I have ever had. The vegetables were cut on the large side, which made it all somehow more perfect and the chicken was exactly as chicken should be - tender, tasty, and healthy!
The meal came with white rice, a fried wonton, and a side salad. The dressing on the side salad was so good I almost cried. My daughter loved it too and as any parent can attest to, when your kid loves a vegetable based meal it feels so so good, like a victory!
We did not want this meal to end! The Basil was truly a magical restaurant - the service was kind, pleasant, friendly and fast and the food was magnificent, something to cherish and now, miss until the next time. Their menu has great variety and we look forward to trying it all - the Salmon has rave reviews as do the Pad Se Ew Noodles.
I highly recommend The Basil for the food and the service, and the lovely energy of the space - the decor, art and tone of the restaurant all add to the overall feeling of healing and honor that the owners want to project into their delicious food and this beautiful space.
