How to adopt from Chicago Animal Care and Control?

You can check out the up-to-date list of available cats, dogs, and other adoptable animals at When you arrive at the shelter, you will need to fill out an adoption questionnaire, or you can fill it out online ahead of time at

All shelter animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. The shelter is open from 12 PM to 7 PM daily, although prospective pet parents should arrive before 6 PM.

Should you adopt a pet?

It's a tough decision to know if you have the time and resources to take care of an animal. Pets can be expensive with vet bills, accessories, food, training, pet walkers, boarding, and emergencies.

And if you're renting you need to be sure your housing situation allows for pets. And finally, animals need a lot of attention. Does your lifestyle allow you the time to devote to a pet?
