Pasta Chips Recipe

Jennifer Geer

These easy air fryer pasta chips are TikTok famous for good reason.

I just had to try the internet sensation of air-frying pasta to make these crunchy, tasty little snacks, and I'm so glad I did. They're easy to make, versatile, and delicious either plain or with your favorite dipping sauces.

If you've got an air fryer, you've got to try these. Even if you don't have an air fryer, I've added instructions below for baking them in the oven.

What type of pasta should you use?

Any pasta that's a good size and shape for eating with your fingers works well. I've tried bow tie and penne. You could also use ziti, rigatoni, fusilli, or any similar shape and size.

Is the air fryer healthy?

It can be healthier than deep-fried foods. According to WebMD, "air frying is healthier than frying in oil. It cuts calories by 70% to 80% and has a lot less fat."

In this recipe, only one tablespoon of olive oil is used, as opposed to submerging the food in a vat of hot oil.

Cooking technique matters when you air fry

You can't crowd an air fryer, or you will end up with unevenly cooked food and soggy pieces. You need to cook in batches, placing the food in one layer without crowding.

This is a recipe I modified from AllRecipes.com for Air Fryer Pasta Chips.

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces of your choice of pasta (bow tie, ziti, penne, rigatoni, etc.)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried pepper flakes (optional)

Directions:

  1. Cook your pasta to al dente (feels tender with some resistance.)
  2. Drain pasta well and add to a large bowl.
  3. Add olive oil, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper flakes (if using.)
  4. Mix well until combined.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F.
  6. Cook in the air fryer in pasta in batches (single layer, no overcrowding) for 5 minutes.
  7. Stir and cook another 2 to 3 minutes, or until the pasta chips are crispy and golden.
  8. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and let cool.
  9. Serve plain or with a dipping sauce (marinara, ketchup, or a favorite sauce of your choice.)

What if you don't have an air fryer?

Prepare the pasta as above, but instead of using the air fryer, bake the pasta in a preheated 425°F oven for 20 to 25 minutes until golden and crispy.
