Discover Chicago's World-Famous Pizza on a Unique Tour: Who Has the Best?

Jennifer Geer

Enjoy a classic Chicago pizza experience on a unique bus or walking tour where you sample Chicago's world-famous pizza like a local.

(CHICAGO) Whether you're a visitor looking for the best Chicago pizzeria, or a local wanting to revisit your favorite spots and learn some history while you're at it, it's time that you check out the Chicago Pizza Tour.

How did pizza become tied to Chicago's rich history, and what are the best off-the-beaten-path pizza places in the city? This tour lets visitors (and locals) eat from multiple pizzerias during a 3 to 3-1/2 hour guided tour.

There is so much more to Chicago pizza than deep dish, which you can discover on this tour.

The Chicago Pizza Tour offers a choice of three different tours.

Tour #1: The Original Chicago Pizza Tour

Enjoy pizza from four pizzerias on a 3-1/2 hour bus tour led by an expert driver. Start downtown and visit Chicago neighborhoods such as Lincoln Park, Lakeview, and Bucktown. Tickets are $75 for adults and $45 for children 6 to 12. Children five and under are free.

Tour #2: The Downtown Pizza Walk

Take a 3-hour walk with your expert guide. Begin downtown between Navy Pier and the Magnificent Mile. You'll sample several types of pizza slices from four pizzerias on your tour, including Neapolitan, deep dish, and artisanal. Ticket prices are $55 for adults and $40 for children 6 to 12. Children five and under are free.

Tour #3: Bucktown Neighborhood Pizza Crawl

Start in Chicago's iconic Bucktown neighborhood and walk your way on a guided tour as you enjoy local pizza from three pizzerias. (Prices are not listed, and no current dates are available for the Bucktown Tour.)

How it all began

Jonathan Porter founded the Chicago Pizza Tour in 2009 with the following mission, "provide visitors and locals with the best and most thorough Chicago pizza experience."

Porter says on his website, "I founded Chicago Pizza Tours with the goal of teaching guests about ingredients and the science behind why certain pizzas taste the way they do. If you really believe in what you do, you should go for it!”
