Would you like a Krispy Kreme donut with your Big Mac?

Could Krispy Kreme donuts be coming to a McDonald's near you sometime soon?

McDonald's is testing the market in collaboration with Krispy Kreme in 9 locations in Kentucky and Indiana.

The 9 test locations serve up fresh donuts all day. They are offering three flavors:

  • Original Glazed Doughnut
  • Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles Doughnut
  • Raspberry Filled Doughnut

It's an experiment

According to a press release from McDonald's, "McDonald’s is always looking for ways to give our fans more of what they crave, and we often conduct tests to inform future menu decisions. This small-scale test will help us understand how offering new bakery items like Krispy Kreme could impact operations in our restaurants."

Customers can get a single donut or buy them in packs of six. Krispy Kreme prides itself on fresh daily donuts at all of its locations and the McDonald's collaboration is no different.

The donut shop will be delivering fresh donuts to McDonald's every day. As the press release stated, "In true Krispy Kreme fashion, they’ll be delivered fresh daily to restaurants."

How is the test going?

The experiment began in October of this year. As for how it's going so far, Krispy Kreme CEO Mike Tattersfield told Yahoo Finance, "It's really early days, but what we're really focusing on is doing the deliver fresh daily (DFD). Can we deliver the doughnuts freshly, just as we do to McDonald's, as we do to our other customers? And then take it from there. We'll update as time goes on."

So if you're craving a flaky, melt-in-your-mouth, glazed donut with your fries, unless you're in the test market, you'll have to wait and see if the offering goes nationwide.

In the meantime, Krispy Kreme is planning to close 14 stores in 2023.
