Bring your dog to The Morton Arboretum this Sunday, May 15th

Jennifer Geer

This Sunday, The Morton Arboretum hosts its "Tails on the Trails" Pet Expo event. Bring your furry friend to see the attractions and explore the trails.

(CHICAGO) The Tails on the Trails event is your chance to explore 16 miles of trails with your dog at The Morton Arboretum in Lisle.

The Arboretum is located in the western suburbs, about 25 miles west of Chicago. It's only two miles from the Metra train station in Lisle. (If you take a train you will want to arrange a ride service to and from the station.)

The details

Tails on the Trails is a day when visitors can bring their dogs to the Arboretum to explore the trails and attend the on-site Pet Expo. The expo features shopping from dog-oriented local businesses and organizations, opportunities to adopt dogs, and information about volunteering at local animal shelters.

What are the hours?

Dogs are allowed in the Arboretum starting at sunset (7 AM.) The pet expo will run from 9 AM to 4 PM near the Visitor Center.

Where to get tickets?

You need to buy tickets in advance. You can purchase tickets online here. There is a $5 fee for each dog.

Free microchipping at the pet expo

Spay Illinois Pet Well Clinics will be on hand at the expo from 9 AM to 4 PM to offer free microchipping.

Microchipping is a permanent form of identification for your pet that won't fall off like a tag or collar. The chips can be scanned at veterinary clinics, animal shelters, and some police departments.

Follow the rules

There are a few rules in place to keep the event safe and enjoyable for everyone. Dogs must have their vaccinations and registrations up to date and be leashed and attended to at all times. Please clean up after your pet and stay off of unmarked trails.

Dogs are not allowed to go into the Children's Garden, the Maze Garden, Visitor Center, Thornhill Educational Center, Administration Building and Research Center, and the May T. Watts Reading Garden.

Dog Admission Days

If you miss this Sunday, you will have another chance to bring your canine companion with you to the Arboretum. Sunday, July 31, is Dog Admission Day when dogs are welcome to visit the grounds with their owner.

This day doesn't feature an expo but is an unstructured opportunity to explore the Arboretum with your dog.

What are the dog days in 2022?

  • Sunday, May 15: Tails on the Trails
  • Sunday, July 31: Dog Admission Day
  • Sunday, September 11: Tails on the Trails
