What are some of the scariest haunted houses in Chicago this Halloween season?

Jennifer Geer

The weather is still warm, but the vibes are turning decidedly spooky.

You know Halloween is approaching in Chicagoland when the Spirit Halloween shops start appearing out of nowhere in vacant retail stores across the area. And though it may feel like summertime outdoors, haunted houses are already beginning to open for business.

Last year was a strange one for the haunted house industry, as the Illinois government had ordered haunted houses closed due to the pandemic, but some defied the orders and opened anyway. This year it's legal for them to run with no capacity limits. However, everyone must wear masks.

Some of the haunted houses will start welcoming the fright-lovers as soon as this Friday. Here is a list of some of the top-rated haunted houses where you can get your scare on.
