In this restaurant review I’m gonna go over BB Tex Orleans located in Katy, Texas. You’ll read about the food, the experience, and overall impression. Let’s go!

The Food

The first time I tried BB Tex Orleans was in November 2020. We ordered their fried turkey for Thanksgiving. While we picked up the turkey we also ordered a couple plates to enjoy for lunch that day to try out their food and this is how the food was.

First, for Thanksgiving we ordered their fried turkey and rice dressing. Both were absolutely delicious. The turkey was tender and falling off the bone. It was well seasoned and probably the most delicious turkey I have ever tasted. The rice dressing was different than what I expected. It was basically a loose grain rice tossed with meat and chopped veggies. It had good flavor and it tasted delicious but it was just different than what I was expecting.

Our two plates were near identical.

My husband and I both had the boil. The boil is a build-it-your-way plate where you can mix and match your favorite proteins and sides. It’s like a crawfish boil but you don’t necessarily have to have crawfish in it.

For the boil, the available proteins are crawfish, dungeness crab, snow crab, cold peel and eat shrimp, and hot and spicy boiled shrimp. The sides include loaded pollo ballet, boiled eggs, button mushrooms, corn, red potatoes, smoked chicken and apple sausage, smoked garlic sausage link, spicy alligator and do we sausage, sweet and spicy pineapple sausage, and boiled greens.

For my plate I had the hot and spicy shrimp with corn, red potatoes, and button mushrooms.

My plate had plenty of food. I had to peel the shrimp which was totally fine. It was a little spicy. The potatoes and mushrooms and corn were all delicious. Everything had seasoning on it so the whole plate was spicy and almost a little salty.

When you order the boil you can get it prepared one of two ways:

  • The Tex Orleans way
  • The Louisiana way

The Tex Orleans way is their signature seasoning style and preparation and the Louisiana way is the spicy version.

We both got our plates the Tex Orleans way and they were both spicy so if you don’t like spicy, you may consider special-ordering this plate to see if they can omit the sauce or offer a comparable substitution for you if you really want to try this.

My husband's boil consisted of the cold peel and eat shrimp along with corn, red potatoes, button mushrooms, smoked chicken and apple sausage, and the spicy alligator andouille sausage.

I also ordered dessert which was the bread pudding. The bread pudding was delicious. It’s a heavier dessert so you will likely only have a couple bites like I did and enjoy the rest for later.

All in all, I think the food is pretty good. They have a really large menu with an assortment of different entrées from shrimp and grits to fish tacos, boudin flautas, red fish, assorted salads, sandwiches and plates.

The plates that we ordered also came with a dipping sauce.

If you eat creole food then you know commonly you’ll get this thousand island dressing-looking sauce that you dip everything into. Some places call it crack sauce because it’s that good.

BB Tex Orleans had the sauce and it was really tasty. I dipped everything into it from my shrimp, to potatoes and mushrooms. It was delicious.

My experience was positive. For the Thanksgiving food they were really organized.

You would park your car after checking in at the check-in station and they bring the food right to your vehicle and load it in your car for you.

For takeout, they have a curbside pick-up area where you can check in and they bring the food right out to you, if you don’t want to go inside. I experienced this restaurant during the pandemic so we did not eat inside, we ordered takeout.

Overall impression

My overall impression of BB Tex Orleans was positive. I would rate it a 7 out of 10. The Thanksgiving food alone was a 10 out of 10.

I’ve only eaten here twice and I ordered the same thing both times.

I would definitely go back to BB Tex Orleans and try some of their other menu items.

The prices are a little expensive but considering that it’s fresh seafood, that’s to be expected. So, just be aware that you’re going to be paying a little bit more for the type of food that they serve and the quality of their food.
