In this review, I'm taking a close look at MOD Pizza, a restaurant chain in the Greater Houston, Texas area. MOD is a DIY pizza place that promises a feel similar to Subway or other cafeteria-style restaurants. Keep reading to learn how it works, how the food tastes, experience and my overall recommendation.

How it works?

Walking into MOD, you will be greeted by staff. You get in line and make your way up to the counter where you can start having the staff make your custom pizza.

They have a ton of toppings, different styles of crust, different sauces, and even a dozen or so sauces you can drizzle on top of your cooked pizza at the end.

You start by telling them the size of your pizza. The most common is the MOD which is equivalent to a medium pizza. When my family goes to MOD, my husband and I each get this size and I eat mine over two days. The crust is thinner so you can gobble down half a pizza and be content. If you're really hungry, you can eat the whole pizza and not feel disgusting afterwards.

They have a variety of sauces which you pick from next. Then comes the seasonings you can add to the sauce which include fresh basil and other herbs available.

Next, the toppings. You have your veggies and your meats. They have veggies like roasted sweet peppers, roasted hot peppers, roasted garlic cloves, and your traditional toppings like green pepper, onion, pineapple, etc. The meats are traditional but, they do have salami which is absolutly delicious. It's thinly sliced and a great sub for pepperoni. I usually get this on my pizza when I'm eating meat.

Then, you can add your seasoning garnish on top before the pizza goes to the brick oven, like salt and pepper, more herbs, etc.

At the end you can choose to have a sauce drizzled on top. We've only done this once and it was super tasty.

Experience

We have only eaten inside once or twice. We usually like to order takeout and run it back to the house where we can plant ourselves in the living room and eat pizza while watching TV or a movie.

The interior is clean and well kept. I've been to multiple MOD's in the Greater Houston area and this has been my experience every time.

Taste

This was my favorite pizza place in the area until I disovered Russo's a few weeks back. MOD is a fun experience for the whole family and the pizza and food and drinks are delicious.

Aside from the pizza, they have some interesting drink options like their iconic lemonade. When you see it, you'll know what I mean. They also have bottled beers, wine and soda. We usually go for the bottled italian soda in black cherry. It's divine.

Their desserts are rich and delicious. They serve milkshakes and chocolate cake.

And, their salads and cheesy garlic bread are also on the menu. They make great appetizers.

I forgot to mention, other than DIYing your pizza, you can also pick from one of their premade specialty pizzas like the Carmen which has pesto, spinach, mozzarella, feta, bacon, artichokes and jalapenos.

Overall Recommendation

I would rate MOD an 8.5/10. It's one of my favorite area pizza places. I have taken family here and friends who have visited the area, many times.

The food is always delicious and the staff is friendly and welcoming.

If you're in the Houston, Texas area and want to try a delicious pizza restaurant, head to a MOD pizza near you to see what you think. You won't be disappointed.
