Yes, pie! I'm crazy about dessert, if you haven't guessed already by reading some of my articles.
Pie is one of my favorites. From creamy to fruity and tart, I love it all! I recently tried a chocolate bottomed pecan pie for the first time and it was heaven in my mouth. It's just what it sounds like: chocolate at the bottom of the pie and the top is the pecan pie goodness and toasty roasty pecans atop.
It sounds different, chocolate plus pecan pie but, it's a marriage made well. You gotta try this flavor some time if you get the chance.
There is no special time for pie than right now. I don't just reserve it for the holidays, I eat the stuff year round. Mid year in the summer to at the top of the year and of course Fall and Winter is like pie land around my house.
In Houston, this great city is known for their rich, culturally diverse and delicious food scene. Desserts are no exception.
Here are some of my favorite spots in Houston for the best pie!
Proud Pie
The name of this bakery says it all, doesn't it? Proud Pie specializes in pies! They have 12+ delicious flavors of pie and they offer seasonal flavors too! Here are some examples of the pies they offer:
- Peaches and cream crumble
- State fair caramel apple
- Lemon chess
- Miss daisy's rich fudge
- Wobbly turtle chocolate silk
- Pierhouse key lime
- Zach's banana's foster
- Big Texas bourbon pecan
- And, other flavors!
I will go here and get 5 or 6 slices of pie! It's so delicious and they serve you large, hearty slices too. Try this place out if you get a chance.
Cheesecake Factory
Oh yes, cheesecake is a pie and I love Cheesecake Factory.
Over 50 types of cheesecake and desserts here. You cannot go wrong with what you choose. They even have diet-friendly options like keto cheesecakes!
My advice here is to get at least two slices and if you are a regular purveyor, try 2 new slices every time you visit.
One slice for enjoying at the restaurant and one to take home! It sounds indulgent and excessive because it is, but who cares!
I love all the flavors but I tend to gravitate toward the red velvet, birthday cake and chocolate peanut butter varieties these days!
House of Pies
Again, it's in the name! I recently visited this spot in Houston and was blown away.
My husband and I took out no less than 8 desserts. Other than pie, they also have brownies, cookies, cream puffs, cake slices and more!
I had the german chocolate cake, he had a chocolate cake, and we also had strawberry cheescake, the bayou goo pie and other flavors of pie!
Are you tired of hearing the word pie yet?
This place is a quaint diner. They serve food here of course and if you're in town, I recommend you eat in, eat dessert there and take dessert home!
This place does pie good!
It took us about a week to work through all that dessert but it was super delicious and a fun weekend outing for the family. My favorite had to be my choices, the bayou goo pie which had a mix of different delicious textures like coconut or nuts plus it was super creamy and the german chocolate cake was served in a generou slice and super delicious!
In Houston there are plenty of bakeries and awesome spots to dine. You can find hidden dessert gems everywhere. When you visit, make sure to hit up some of all of these pie havens I mentioned above!
