Dessert is my thing! It's always been one of my favorites since I was a child. From candy to cakes and pies, ice cream and more, I'm a total dessert fanatic and San Antonio has some great places where you can find desserts you will love!
Check out these 6 dessert spots in San Antonio, TX you have got to try out!
1. 210 Ice Cream
We used to drive by this place all the time. My husband always mentioned it and one day we finally stopped in. It's a small ice cream shop with seating for around 12 small groups.
I had no idea what I would order when I pulled into the parking area but I saw someone leaving the shop with a brightly-colored frozen treat that looked refreshing and so incredible.
I asked inside what she ordered and they said it was a Mangonada.
Mangonadas are a popular tropical frozen treat that you can get across the U.S.
At 210 Ice Cream you get a frozen mango sorbet (smoothie consistency) that's super creamy and refreshing. They top it with chamoy and lime. You get a refreshing treat bursting with mango flavor, with a spicy, sour kick.
I also enjoy their strawberry funnel cake that's loaded with tons of fresh strawberries, ice cream and whip cream. It's a beauty to look at and if you order this and eat inside, your table will get stares, for sure. They also make chocolate and oreo variations.
Try this place out!
2. Cheesecake Factory
I know, I know Cheesecake Factory.
It's not incredibly different or special just because there are Cheesecake Factories in cities across the U.S. but when I was in college this was a treat I really enjoyed and it has to make the list.
Cheesecake Factory has dozens of different cheesecakes and desserts.
I used to go to the Cheesecake Factory in North Star Mall in San Antonio and order two slices of cheesecake, take those things back to my fridge and slowly eat on them all week long.
They were divine.
If you want to get the best bang for your buck I would recommend buying an entire cheesecake in your favorite flavor.
Slices are around $7. At least they were that price back when I was ordering in college and an entire pie is around $40 to $50, if not more depending on the kind that you get. So it's not cheap but it's delicious and very worth it.
3. Mi Tierra
Mi Tierra is a restaurant and bakery. They are located in downtown San Antonio and there may or may not be at other locations across town but this spot is your go-to for tasty, authentic Mexican food and desserts.
When you check out their bakery you'll be greeted by a huge glass case filled with delicious pastries and treats.
They are known for their Tres Leches cakes and they make them in a bunch of different flavors. You can order them by the slice!
My favorite is the strawberry Tres Leches and oreo Tres Leches cakes.
You will not be able to only pick one, trust me.
There are tons of different treats they offer and you will not be disappointed. I always leave the bakery with no less than two bags filled with delicious treats. If you’re a tourist visiting San Antonio or if you live there and you've never been here, you've got to make it downtown and check out Mi Tierra! Go now!
4. Cake Shop
The Cake Shop is a cake bakery and they are known for their gorgeous wedding cakes. But, they also make birthday cakes, specialty cakes and regular cakes for enjoying.
I go to the one off I-10 near Colonnade and their quaint bakery is always clean and their glass case is filled with a bunch of different flavored cakes that you will adore, like:
- Italian cream
- Chocolate tres leches
- Tres leches
- Red velvet
Their cake slices are huge!
Literally the biggest slices of cake I have ever bought and they are iced heavily which I love. I'm a big icing girl.
Some of them are also filled with delicious fruit fillings and custards. The chocolate Tres Leches is super incredible and I recommend that you try that. My other favorites are the lemon and red velvet cakes. My sister is crazy over their Italian cream cake.
I've been going to The Cake Shop for years and I've ordered many birthday cakes from there too. You have got to try it.
5. Lucy's Cakes
Lucy’s is a bakery that specializes in cakes.
So you go here when you want to order a cake and they also sell cupcakes in store. This is one of the best tasting cakes and one of the most delicious icing that you will taste.
Ever since a family member introduced me to this bakery, it's the place that I go to when I need to order a cake from a birthday cake to an anniversary cake. I really find any reason to order a cake and then go to Lucy's.
The cake is moist and delicious. I love that they have different cake flavors too like pineapple and red velvet. More than your typical white and chocolate cake. My favorite is probably their lemon and their strawberry cake. Try this!
Kuma does ice cream cones. I remember seeing on TV these interesting Asian flavored ice creams in fluffy, thick waffle cones. It looked like a huge soft and fluffy waffle made in a waffle iron that was molded like a cone and stuffed with these interesting-flavored ice creams. So I Googled it one day and I found Kuma and I was delighted to learn that it was in San Antonio!
They have flavors like taro, matcha, and flavors like unicorn, coconut, strawberry, chamoi, etc.
And you can decorate your ice cream cone with anything from Pocky sticks to roasted marshmallows, boba, etc.
When my sister and I first ventured here one Friday night at 10pm, the line was out the door and we waited for about 40 minutes before we finally got our ice cream.
It was definitely worth it and since then they have opened more locations across the city.
They also serve custard, delicious tea and melties that you will love.
What do you think?
Try all these places. If you've experienced one or more, let me know which one and what you loved there!
