It's Spring and in Houston, that means rainy season!

This weekend, the Houston area is expected to have a mix of overcast and rainy weather. It's actually raining now with flash flood warning throughout the area.

If you're wondering about some entertaining things you can do at home to stay in during this ugly weather, I've got 9 no-spend weekend ideas to keep you entertained during rainy weather!

1. Cook

What? Cook? Cooking is not one of my favorite activities, I have to say. I'm trying to like it more because I would much rather eat at home than eat out.

Cooking can actually be fun and something my family does when we stay indoors is cook a lot of fun and tasty food. Cooking is a good no-spend weekend idea because it keeps you occupied for hours and when you're done, you have your meal you created as a reward.

Some meal ideas we've made in the past:

  • Beef ragu short ribs
  • Homemade mac and cheese
  • Ox tails
  • Beer crab legs
  • Potato salad
  • Gumbo
  • Seafood stew
  • Sirloin steak

You don't even have to make a grocery store run, just use what is in our house.

If you need some inspiration, visit My Fridge Food for some meal ideas based on what's already in your fridge and pantry.

2. Workout

Exercise will get your blood pumping. You can do it with the whole family and it can be a lot of fun. Indoors you can do things like:

  • Workout using gym equipment (if you own gym equipment)
  • Circuit workouts
  • Workout videos

If you don't have any equipment and you don't have a subscription to workout videos, go to YouTube or Tik Tok as there are tons of free workout videos there. One of my favorites are any of the Chloe Ting workouts. They are challenging but get you results.

3. Clean

Do a really good deep clean of your home. Throw out things you don't need, rearrange furniture, wash curtains and linens, dust, etc.

This will keep you busy for hours and you will feel great after it's all done.

We usually do this twice a year, like a good Spring and Winter deep cleaning. But, it's great to do on a boring rainy weekend too.

4. Watch movies

If you have cable or streaming services, binge watch your favorite movies.

  • Amazon Video
  • Hulu
  • Netflix
  • Sling

There are also free movies on YouTube and tons of free movie websites you can stream shows from.

5. Play games

Board games, card games, whatever you want.

I am a total lover of games so this is usually something I try to get the whole family to do during a weekend in. If you have no games, no need to run to the store. Get a game on your phone or a free computer game.

6. Date night

When the kids are asleep, do date night with your partner. You can take the day to plan it out and execute at night!

  • Sitting in front of the fireplace
  • Watching movies
  • Talking

This is really fun and something to look forward to at the end of the night.

7. Listen to music

Tune in to your favorite Houston radio shows. They'll be talking about the weather and playing some weather-appropriate music to keep you engaged and entertained.

Houston radio stations:

  • 95.7 The Spot
  • Mix 96.5
  • Mega 101.1
  • 97.9 The Box

8. Listen to a podcast

I love learning and podcasts are great for absorbing information from experts for free. I could listen to them all day long.

  • Spirituality
  • Business
  • Marketing
  • Parenting

Listen to your favorite topics on podcasts. Check out the best Houston podcasts to see what's hip and happening in the city.

9. Cooking class
