1. They eat whatever they want

Really? This has got to be a joke. The truth is, skinny people actually eat everything they want.

This may sound surprising but you don't have to eliminate your favorite foods from your diet in order to lose weight and/or maintain. This is a super important lesson and let this one sink in. If you feel like you're depriving yourself, you are just going to want to have that one thing even more.

For example, if your thing is eating a small cup of ice cream at the end of the day, what's the harm in indulging if you're eating well and making good choices in your daiy routine. You could easily swap out some extra carbs at dinner (or not) to make room for your favorite cup of ice cream for dessert. Skinny people know that no foods are off limits and they avoid banning their favorites.

2. They cook at home

Cooking at home can be a real treat.

Not only do you get to make all your favorite foods but, you know exactly all the ingredients that are going into them.

If you want extra mushrooms in your meal, you can totally do that. You don't have to wonder about if a certain ingredient is gluten-free or dairy-free if that's a dietary requirement (or preference) for yourself because you'll be cooking it, so you'll know. Not to mention cooking is fun.

Eating out is really for convenience and if you eat fast food or takeout often, not only can it be super fattening and you have less control over what you're eating but it can get really boring.

3. They eat dinner early

There are many benefits to ending your last meal of the day earlier than later.

First of all, it takes a lot of work for your body to digest food. You want the digestion process to start early in the day so it doesn't interfere with your sleep.

Try to stop eating food at least three hours before bedtime. This little trick can also help you lose weight.

Have you heard of intermittent fasting?

It's a way of eating that uses fasting throughout the day to help you lose weight. So you eat for a period of time and you fast for a period of time.

The traditional intermittent fasting is 16/8. This means you fast for 16 hours and you eat for eight hours. Your eating window could be 9 AM to 5 PM and then at 5 PM the fasting window would start and last until 9 AM the next morning.

So you would stop eating at 5 PM, giving your body plenty of time to focus on the digestion process in time for going to bed at night.

When I tried intermittent fasting I stopped eating at 7 PM and it helped me lose 4 pounds in the first week!

4. They don't turn to food for happiness

Do you ever use food to celebrate a happy time in your life? Many of us do it, right?

You get a promotion, so you go out to dinner.

You passed your exam, you eat.

It's a common thing and you don't have to scrap this completely to adopt a skinny girl mentality but, doing it less can help you stay healthy.

Instead of using food as a reward, try something else, like treating yourself to a pedicure, going on a trip, enjoying a long and indulgent bath, etc.

There are other rewards out there other than a 5-star steak dinner or dessert at your favorite bakery.

5. They don't upsize their meal

Skinny girls don't supersize their meal.

We all eat fast food here and there. It's just convenient sometimes. When you're faced with eating takeout, don't pay for the extra calories. Keep your portion as normal and opt out of upsizing your meal. Those extra calories add up and your waistline will thank you if you don't upsize your meal.

6. They stop eating when their hunger pangs disappear

A lot of us grew up with our parents telling us to finish all the food on our plate.

That habit is taken with you into adulthood.

You don't have to finish your plate. When you're not hungry any more, stop eating. Be mindful about this as this one little trick alone can help you lose weight effortlessly throughout the year.

7. They eat breakfast

It's the most important meal of the day after all, right?

Everybody doesn't eat breakfast and that's ok but whatever or whenever your first meal of the day is, eat!

Exercise has got to be a part of your weekly ritual. It's true that abs are made in the kitchen but exercise aids in a healthy lifestyle.
