NEW ORLEANS, LA -- Take part in networking and community-building program in New Orleans held by the Charter Board Leadership Academy.

The Charter Board Leadership Academy was launched in 2018, in collaboration with Education Board Partners. This six-month institute creates a pipeline of diverse and dedicated Fellows to serve as the next generation of leaders in New Orleans charter schools.

CBP and LAPCS developed the Charter Board Leadership Academy, a unique board recruitment and training program focusing solely on onboard leadership, with support from the Walton Family Foundation.

This program gives the opportunity to apply extensive experience with board recruiting and training programs to the unique environment and needs of New Orleans.

Participants who want to serve on a local charter school board and support students, families, and teachers in the community will be able to participate in networking and community-building activities.

They will attend board leadership, effective board structures and procedures, accountability, and equity seminars. Participants are also expected to develop an understanding of the present educational landscape and examine models of exceptional governance from both inside and outside of New Orleans.

The academy delves into the most pressing concerns that charter boards face. Fellows learn how to run a board effectively and are ready to take on the responsibilities of serving on a public school board.

The CBLA curriculum includes:

- Governance Academy: Standards of Effective Charter School,

- Governance,

- Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion,

- Fiscal Oversight,

- Academic Oversight,

- School Leader Support & Evaluation,

- Charter Governance in New Orleans, and

- Crisis Communications.
