Taste of Louisiana: Hands-On Creole Class and Lunch by the Southern Food & Beverage Museum

NEW ORLEANS, LA- Taste of Louisiana: Hands-On Creole Class and Lunch is a cooking event that the Southern Food & Beverage Museum will hold on Monday, August 2, 2021.

The event will be held in the Museum, located on 1504 Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, New Orleans, LA, 70113. The Museum will hold the event from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Creole Cooking Class gives you a hands-on Creole New Orleans cooking class. It will explore the iconic dishes of New Orleans from Jambalaya to Bananas Foster.

Presented by Dee Lavigne, SoFAB's Director of Culinary Programming, the demonstration class will offer an in-depth look into creating delicious, traditional dishes that can be found nowhere else in the world while discussing their cultural and historical origins. The course includes a curator-led tour of the Museum.

This class is a hands-on cooking class where you will be learning about Creole culture and the cooking techniques to make this cuisine. It will cost $75 per person and $70 for Museum members.

In this class, participants will cook foods like a fresh tomato salad with creole Remoulade sauce, Creole Jambalaya with chicken, sausage, vine-ripened tomatoes, and Bananas Foster with vanilla ice cream, along with french bread with butter. Iced tea will be served as the beverage.

The Southern Food & Beverage Museum includes admission, lunch, recipes, and a curator-led guided private tour at the ticket price. Beer and wine are also available for purchase.

The participant will be guided by Chef Dee Lavigne, a New Orleans native. Chef Lavigne worked in the food and hospitality industry, including 15 years baking at Whole Foods Markets after graduated from The Culinary Institute of America.

In this event, Children ages 13 and up are welcome to join at the total adult price, and ages eight to 12 can participate at $ 55.

This event will enforce all COVID-19 guidelines by the City of New Orleans and the CDC. This event will also socially distance groups, require masks, and limit class size to 16 persons.
