Are you ready for the 2023 Gaslight Festival?
I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Deana E. Karem, the President of the Jeffersontown Chamber. Deana gave me the inside scoop of all things Gaslight Festival. This is an event that is not to be missed!
How would you describe the Gaslight Festival to someone that has never attended?
The Gaslight Festival weekend is a community tradition. With more than 300 booths featuring seasonal arts and crafts, specialty leathers, garden tools and tips, glass art productions, jewelry makers, and a variety of commercial products guests are sure to find something to showcase for the holiday season or spice up their home décor. This year’s Festival offers food, more than 10 live music acts, dance groups and magic. There is an ice cream eating contest for kids, and a bubble artist on Saturday morning. On Sunday afternoon, in addition to shopping and eating, visitors browse the Gaslight Festival Car Show featuring nearly 200 customized automobiles.. The Gaslight Festival week also offers a 5K Run/Walk, a parade and a balloon glow. More than 170,000 people visit the community of Jeffersontown over the 8-day festival produced by the Jeffersontown Chamber in partnership with the City of Jtown.
In your opinion, what makes the Gaslight Festival so special?
If you ask anyone, there are 100 special features of the Gaslight Festival. But the number one reason people visit the Festival is to reconnect with friends and family. This 54-year tradition brings school friends together from years past and connects family members to long-term traditions.
The Grand Marshal is Officer Wilt. Talk to me a little about how much this means to the festival and our community at large.
Our grand marshal is the Wilt Family. We certainly hope Officer Wilt can be with us on this day. We asked them to be this year’s Grand Marshal to show our love for Nickolas and our support to his family. Jeffersontown has strong ties to the regional public safety community and this honor is a small way that we can express our gratitude for Nickolas’ bravery and his family’s endless energy in bringing him back so he can continue to serve. We are with him!
There are many events that are a part of this multi-day festival. Do they require registration in advance?
The Gaslight Festival is really for the community but we do have a few events that registration is required. Obviously to give blood, one has to register. The Gaslight Festival 5K on Tuesday, September 12 also requires a registration. The golf scramble is sold out and if someone wants to participate in the parade registration would be required. The motorcycle rally and car show are also events that require registration so that we can keep the event safe and know how many units to manage. All of the registrations and information about this year’s entertainment can be found at www.jtowngaslight.com.
