Kentucky-Made Gift Guide 2021: Shop Local This Holiday Season

JC Phelps

Hey, y’all! ‘Tis the season for gift guides. Where did the year go? As crazy as it seems, it’s December — and time is running out to buy your friends, friendly, and loved ones the perfect gift. There’s nothing that I love more than supporting Kentucky-owned, Kentucky-made goods. As such, I’m excited to debut my Kentucky Made Gift Guide 2021. Looking for the perfect gift? Look no further, y’all!

Kentucky-Made Gift Guide 2021: Shop Local This Holiday Season

Shelby Horse Supply: Personalized Belt, Dog Collar

There are few items that a Kentucky gentleman needs more than a classic leather belt. In my biased opinion, I’d recommend a brown leather with a gold name plate (I like using initials), as it is both timeless and southern. The leather at Shelby Horse Supply is second to none in terms of quality + appearance.

However, don’t stop there: get a matching personalized dog collar! My Lincoln loves his – and your furry friend will love their collar, too! Shop here.

Eden Roots Flower Farm: Amaryllis in a Custom Pot

We often associate planting with warmer months — but, Eden Roots Flower Farm changes that with their gorgeous bulbs this holiday season. I love the Jumbo Amaryllis Bulb, which comes dressed with moss and a bow – and the moss pot takes it to the next level!

Plants are the gifts that keep on giving, y’all! Learn more about Eden Roots Flower Farm here; shop here; check them out on Instagram here. You can also shop them in-store at Weathered Oak in Simpsonville (6950 Shelbyville Rd).

Fun fact: only 2% of the amaryllis bulbs in the world are greater than 26 cm; Eden Roots Flower Farm only sells bulbs that are 30 cm in diameter or greater. That means one thing: they will produce the most flowers possible!

The Variety Shoppe: Birdhouse

This birdhouse is unique, as it is outfitted for a peanut butter jar insert. Apart from the birdhouse, the Variety Shop has a plethora of other gift options, such as retro games and toys. Amish-owned and operated, it is located in Cub Run, a community in Hart County (who has Kentucky’s largest Amish population).

Other Hart County Favorites:

I adore this handmade wooden bead tree from GeeGa’s Home Decor; vintage treasures can be found at A Walk Through Time; and wonderful, trendy gifts can be found at All Things by Mel. Learn more about shopping in Horse Cave here.

Sunhouse Craft: Leather Horse Kit, Broom Kit

Sunhouse Craft is a true embodiment of Appalachian craft. Made in the rolling hills of Appalachia (Berea, Kentucky), the wooden wares are handmade, often hewn with axe and knife, while the brooms are handwoven via a non-electric process. They have many fun gifts for Christmas, though two standouts are the leather horse kit and broom kit. The broom kit includes everything needed to weave a traditional Appalachian style hand broom; while 10% of all sales of the leather horse kit go to New Racehorse Adoption Program. Shop here.

EF Meeks: Ties, Pocket Squares

Based in Lexington, EF Meeks is a Kentucky-made fashion line that asserts that “looking good is a family tradition”. His designs are classic, southern, and innately preppy — I adore everything that he does! From Keeneland to Churchill Downs, an EF Meeks tie and/or pocket square will have the man in your life stylin’ and profilin’. Shop EF Meeks here.

Secret Shelfie

Secret Shelfie came from the desire to have a place to put decorative bed pillows at night. They are made locally in Kentucky by Terry Callahan at her farm in Vine Grove. Photo frame/wall art by day — utilitarian by night. Shop on Amazon here.

Eichendesign: Earrings

Have an earring lover on your list? Look no further than these beauties from Eichendesign! This Louisville-made, custom product line includes earrings, wooden bow ties, ornaments, mugs, t-shirts, socks, and more. Shop here!

Maizie Clarke: Tea Towels

Maizie Clarke is a Louisville-based watercolor artist and creative. Her custom house portraits are absolutely breathtaking, as is her line of home goods that feature her original art. The perfect host/hostess gift this holiday season is, hands down, her tea towels. Adorable + high-quality — they are my favorites that I have ever purchased. Shop here.

Give Kentucky-made gifts this year for the holiday season, y’all! They are sure to be the hit of your gift-giving extravaganza.
