HOUSTON — Hispanic Outlook on Education has named Lone Star the number one two-year college in the nation for having the highest number of undergraduate Hispanic students.

“Lone Star College is proud to welcome all students looking to enhance their education,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor.

Head felt grateful for this achievement and looked forward to welcoming the return to its students this fall. The numbers of Hispanic students at LSC accounted for 36% of the campus’ total student population in the fall of 2018 and spring of 2019.

The rankings were determined by the national Integrated Postsecondary Education Data system, a method of surveys administered by the National Center for Education Statistics.

Head thanked the LSC faculty’s staff for helping their students continue their education during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hispanic Outlook in Education also recognized LSC for being second in the nation in helping Hispanics to get associate degrees. LSC has awarded more than 2,800 degrees, accounting for 36% of the total number of degrees conferred in 2019.

The monthly publication publishes this ranking each year. Data used in the ranking was the latest available.

Lone Star College offers educational training to more than 93,000 students each semester. The campus will reopen for the fall semester while continuing to provide online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, LSC provides financial aid grants to its students affected by the pandemic, which can be used for students’ needs and emergency costs. To assist in taking online classes, LSC also provided laptop computers to its students.
