Attackers fired dog walker Ryan Fischer in the chest and kidnapped Lady Gaga's puppies, Koji and Gustav, in February. Mr. Fischer avoided the assault after having to get a portion of his lung cut. On Thursday, police reported that three people had been charged with the incident and two more had been charged as accomplices. Police confirmed the four persons accused were "documented gang members" but did not elaborate.
In February, Lady Gaga promised a $500,000 incentive for the dogs' return. Since Lady Gaga gave an incentive for their release, the dogs were surrendered to the police two days later. The four guys, ages 18, 19, 27, and 27, have been charged with attempted murder, burglary, and attempted murder. They've since been charged with accessory to attempted murder for their suspected involvement in the nighttime burglary of the two bulldogs in Hollywood. Asia, another dog who was unharmed in the event, was later identified by Mr. Fischer as his "guardian angel"
According to police in Los Angeles, five people have been detained in conjunction with the brutal abduction of Lady Gaga’s two dogs in February, at which her dog walker was shot and seriously wounded.
According to an LAPD press release, James Jackson, 18, Jaylin White, 19, and Lafayette Whaley, 27, are accused of being involved in the theft and shooting. They were detained on charges of kidnapping and attempted murder.
Jennifer McBride, 50, the woman who took the dogs to authorities, has since been detained, according to police. McBride and Harold White, 40, Jaylin White’s aunt, were reportedly “determined to be accessories after the initial crime” and are being kept on suspicion of accessory after the event to attempted murder, according to the press release.
According to the press release, McBride “returned the dogs in response to the incentive notification. She eventually took the dogs to the LAPD Olympic Station. Detectives discovered McBride had a friendship with Harold White, the father of one of the suspects.”
“Detectives do not believe the suspects were targeting the victim because of the dogs’ owner.” the release says. But it contributes that “evidence suggests the suspects knew the great value of the breed of dogs and was the motivation for the robbery.”
According to dog experts, French bulldogs are one of the most common dog types and are simple to steal due to their tiny size.
In this scenario, no charges have been brought. It was unclear if either of the defendants had lawyers who might speak on their behalf.
At the time of the robbery in Hollywood on February 24, Gaga’s dogwalker Ryan Fischer was walking the singer’s three puppies, Koji, Gustav, and Asia. Before the attackers sped away with Koji and Gustav, leaving Asia behind, he was fired once in the face.
The dogs were reportedly returned by McBride two days later. Captain Jonathan Tippet of the Los Angeles Police Department informed the Associated Press at the time that the woman seemed to be “uninvolved and unassociated” with the assault.
