We were given a reminder on just how dangerous this game really is.
In a scene out of a nightmare, Buffalo Bill's safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field after he made a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. After the tackle Hamlin stood up and then collapsed and fell backwards. His mother was at the stadium watching the game in the stands.
According to reports by ESPN (link below) medical personnel quickly came on the field and aggressively performed CPR. Hamlin's heart was restarted and he was taken by ambulance to the Cincinnati University Medical Center. At this time he is listed in critical condition.

Social media was showered with support from several athletes and teams from around the NFL.
Buffalo fans known as Bill's Mafia are legendary for their giving spirit. Hamlin had set up a foundation and before tonight it had $10,000 donated. As of midnight EST, that number had increased to a mind boggling $1.2 Million!
After the ambulance left it was obvious that the coaches were unwilling to continue the game and the NFL suspended the contest until a future date.
In 1997 on National TV the Detroit Lions linebacker Reggie Brown was hurt on a tackle and went into respiratory arrest due to a spinal cord injury. Browns career in football was over but over time he regained mobility. In the link below, Brown talks about his ordeal with detroitnews.com.
On Monday evening Damar Hamlin's close friend and representative Jordon Rooney released a statement on Twitter about his condition.
"His vitals are back to normal and they have put him to sleep to put a breathing tube down his throat. They are currently running tests. We will provide updates as we have them."
He also asked that people not spread rumors or speculate on his condition until they give an update.
Some fans of the Bengals and the Bill's have met at the hospital and are praying for Damar. I'm sure all fans and players around the country share in that spirit.
