CHROMA, an alternative hip-hop Latinx collective consisting of musicians Bleu Santana, Kalid Abdul, and POLITO, plans to launch an eco-friendly clothing line to commemorate Earth Day.

The clothing line includes t-shirts, jeans, and sweatshirts made of recyclable, hand-crafted material.

"I guess the best way to describe it is upcycled clothing," said rapper and CHROMA artist Kalid Abdul. "Basically it's second-hand clothing repurposed to be merch."

CHROMA is best known for its trendy, upbeat music projects but wanted to do something special for the environment to celebrate Earth Day.

"I love Earth Day and through CHROMA, we always try to celebrate someway when it comes around," said CHROMA artist POLITO. "I felt like for some reason I wasn't seeing any sort of Earth Day promotion or hype or anything which I thought was lame."

In launching the eco-friendly clothing line, CHROMA hopes to bring more awareness to Earth Day and environmentalism.

"I wanted to find a way to bring attention to it in a couture way using the skills I have through making clothes and designing with Andrés," said POLITO.

Every piece in the collection is handcrafted and made exclusively by a pair of CHROMA members.

"Each piece is upcycled because they are thrifted or second-hand clothes," said POLITO. "They are handcrafted by Andrés, my brother and the main graphic designer in CHROMA. He designs the assets and I hand-make wooden screens to print them on the clothes in several colors/locations depending on the piece."

With so much attention to detail involved, making upcycled apparel is no short process.

"Overall each piece takes roughly two hours to make," said POLITO. "That's not counting for the time spent waiting for the ink to dry."

The new, eco-friendly CHROMA apparel line will release tomorrow on Earth Day. The merch will be available for purchase on their official website and a link will also be provided on the CHROMA Instagram story, the group told NewsBreak.

Prices for the apparel range from $30-40 depending on the item.

The clothing line release is not the only thing on the CHROMA agenda for the week, either. CHROMA will perform alongside trending pop star A-Wall tonight at the Fine Life Live event presented by FADER this Friday in Dallas.

The event, presented by Corona and the National Independent Venue Foundation in collaboration with FADER, will take place Thursday night at the Backyard, a popular sports bar near downtown Dallas.

CHROMA will join A-Wall, the headliner of the show, during parts of his performance. The group is expected to perform tracks from their alternative hip-hop-themed collaborative album with A-Wall.

The album, titled Primavera, released in 2020. A deluxe version of the album was released in January 2021.

One of the singles from the album, Watcha Say?, has amassed 2 million Spotify streams.

Doors for the Fine Life Live event open at 8 PM and all attendees must be 21 years or older to participate. Registration for the event is required and a link to register can be found here.
