As the weather cools down and the leaves start to fall, that meants it's time for the return of goblins, ghouls and killer clowns at five Akron-area haunted houses. Horror enthusiasts have a variety of haunt options to choose from – including a haunted schoolhouse and laboratory, a haunted factory, a haunted hayride and even a family-friendly option suitable for kids.

Here are five haunted houses to visit for a scary good time in the Akron area

Factory of Terror

The Factory of Terror in Canton spans a considerable distance of over a mile, encompassing five distinct and spine-chilling attractions: 1300 Lost Souls, Industrial Nightmare, Lafayette 13, Massacre on Mahoning, and the Abyss.

  • When : Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays now through Nov. 4. Hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to midnight and Sundays from 6-9 p.m.
  • Where: 4125 Mahoning Road NE, Canton
  • Admission: Tickets are available online or at the door and range from $30-$47.
  • There is no minimum age required to attend the haunted house but due to the mature nature of the show it is not recommended for children under age 12. Guests ages 15 and younger are required to have an adult chaperone who is at least 21. One chaperone may supervise up to six minor guests per visit.

Ghoul Brothers

Ghoul Brothers has been an important part of the Akron-area haunted house scene since 2017. The attraction is known for its realistic-yet-gruesome actors, props and special effects work.

  • When: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 4. Friday and Saturday hours are from 7:30-11 p.m. and Sunday hours are from 6-9 p.m.
  • Where: 3235 Manchester Road, Unit X, Akron
  • Admission: Tickets are available online or at the door and are $25.

Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory

One of the most well known spooky attractions in the area is back for its 50th season. The Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory features seven floors of terror for thrill seekers. The attraction’s Monster Midway offers photo opportunities, games, merchandise, food trucks and a bar.

  • When: Fridays-Saturdays from 7 p.m. to midnight and Sundays from 7-10 p.m. with additional hours on Halloween.
  • Where: 1300 Triplett Blvd., Akron
  • Admission: Tickets are available online and range from $30-$47.

Hudson Haunted House

Located inside Oak Grove Park, the Hudson Haunted House has been offering attendees spooky thrills since 1972. The attraction features a black-out maze and a variety of terrifying rooms that promise to test attendees’ courage at every turn.

  • When: Fridays and Saturdays in October from 7:30-11 p.m. and additional hours on Sunday, Oct. 29. The attraction also offers a kids’ matinee featuring no masks, lights and trick-or-treat on select Sundays from 1-4 p.m., and a family friendly version of the haunted house called Monster Magic on select Sundays from 5:30-9 p.m.
  • Where: 2250 Barlow Road, Hudson
  • Admission: Tickets are available online or at the door and are $15 for adults and $8 for children under age 12. Admission for the kids’ matinee is $4.

Tadmor’s Haunt for Kids

Created for kids ages 12 and under, Tadmor’s Haunt for Kids is a family friendly spooky hayride that promises laughter, screams and fun. The attraction also features food trucks and a beer garden.

  • When: Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 21 from 6-10 p.m. On Saturdays from 5-6 p.m., Tadmor’s offers a sensory-inclusion hour.
  • Where: 3000 Krebs Dr., Akron
  • Admission: $5 per person per ride, ages 2 and younger receive free admission.
