There is nothing better than a great burger. And the good news is that Chillicothe has some of the best burgers around. No matter what kind of burger you crave, there is likely one somewhere around town. So, without further ado, let’s talk about the best burgers in town.
Old Canal Smokehouse
While this specific restaurant is known for it’s barbeque, the Old Canal Smokehouse has fantastic burgers. And don’t go for the fries on the side. Get the delicious homemade chips!
The Old Canal Smoke House is located in historic downtown Chillicothe, Ohio and features a cozy atmosphere and amazing food in our newly renovated 1850s forge. The Old Canal Smokehouse also features a draught menu of 16 beers curated with styles to suit any beer lover.
The Old Canal Smokehouse will please the kids too with it’s fantastic kids meal menu. It includes chicken strips, pizza, sliders and mini corn dogs.
Keep in mind that the Old Canal Smokehouse can get really busy on the weekends, especially on game day. Go during the week if you can and you’ll have much less of a wait.
Carl’s Townhouse
Don’t let the name fool you. Carl’s Townhouse is really a retro diner. It has the black and white tile floors and the red seats and tables. Food is served in red plastic baskets. The wait staff is friendly and knows everyone. Honestly, in this restaurant everyone knows everyone.
The burgers are thick and juicy. The crinkle cut fries serve as a worth compliment. And let’s be honest, the cool environment makes everything taste even better. This diner is an absolute gem. It’s not very large, so get there early if visiting for lunch.
You can find out more about Carl’s Townhouse on their website here.
Sumburger
Sumburger is a Chillicothe institution. Sumburger has been around since 1953, Sumburger has been offering an amazing, cook-to-order menu with everything from our famous Double sumburger Platter to Perch Dinners and mouth-watering Bourbon Chicken.
The burgers are great. The fries are great too. As a matter of fact, I actually had some last night to compliment some leftovers. So crunchy and delicious. You can’t go wrong with anything at Sumburger. And I noticed on their website that Sumburger is also thinking of opening an ice cream store in town, so keep an eye out for that too.

R Kitchen On Paint
Lastly, I wanted to mention a newer restaurant, R Kitchen On Paint. This restaurant serves "upscale comfort food," and the location is included in the name, so there is no confusion where to find this establishment: Paint Street. The American standard burger is the only burger on the menu, but it doesn't matter. It includes a Ohio patty, cheese, lettuce, pickle, onion and special sauce on brioche bun.
This burger is the most expensive option listed, but since R Kitchen On Paint is more upscale than the other establishments, this is to be expected. You also find a fun urban decor at R Kitchen On Paint. It's a perfect date night location.
Did I miss anything? What is your favorite burger in town? Feel free to tell me in the comments.
