The Howell Mill Road Walmart in Atlanta, was once a bustling store. But over recent years the store has seen a decline in foot traffic due to a surge in theft. Walmart's solution is to have this store include an in-house police substation.

According to a September 5th report , the decision to include an in-store law enforcement facility is due to the degree of theft and other crimes prior to its closure, which itself was due to suspected arson.

“After talking with the Merchants Association on MLK and Clark University and other people in the neighborhood, folks were saying they want to see more police presence,” Dickens said, Rough Draft Atlanta reported. (source)

This decision is anticipated to draw mixed reactions from industry experts, and its controversial nature is widely acknowledged.

According to Mayor Andre Dickens, the substation will also be an area for city officers to hold meetings and file paperwork, among other duties.

What do you think?

Would this make you feel safer if you were to shop at this store?
