HOUSTON, TX — The Greater Houston Partnership has launched the Houston Area Equity & Inclusion Organization Assessment, a robust tool to assist businesses and organizations of all sizes in the region in improving their equity and inclusion strategy and increasing community impact.

On June 17, the Partnership hosted a virtual launch event to introduce the assessment and answer participants' questions. LaTanya Flix, Partnership Senior Vice President of DEI, led the discussion, which was joined by Marci Blue, Director of Research and Data Initiatives at the Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP), which the local organization has partnered with to help facilitate the assessment.

The Equity & Inclusion Organization Assessment is a key component of the Partnership's initial phase of action for One Houston Together, its commitment to leveraging the power of the business community to address racial inequities. One Houston Together's initial priorities are to accelerate the growth of underrepresented businesses and to increase racial equity in corporate talent pipelines and executive leadership.

The assessment, which is based on the Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Benchmarks, allows businesses and organizations to evaluate their performance on 175 indicators across 15 different categories, ranging from reactive to best practice. All organizations with five or more employees in the 12-county Houston area are eligible to participate in the assessment. It closes on July 31.

The Partnership collaborated with the GCP, which has been involved in DEI work for over 20 years, to assist with the assessment's development and deployment.

Blue virtually guided event attendees through the evaluation and answered questions about the tool. She also offered advice on how organizations should approach the evaluation:

  • Determine a point of contact, such as a DEI lead Chief Human Resources officer or someone similar.
  • Distribute the access link throughout the organization so that the appropriate person can weigh in on key elements.
  • Download the assessment questions PDF to assist you in answering the questions, and then electronically submit your answers.

Please fill out the form on this link https://www.houston.org/DEIassessment to receive your organization's URL and unique password. There are also links to frequently asked questions and a PDF version of the assessment questions.
