HOUSTON, TX — Air Alliance Houston and the Fifth Ward Community are inviting Fifth Ward residents to sample the air at the StoryTime Bike Line!.

The event will be held on today, June 19, 2021, from 06.00 PM - 08.00 PM, starting from the Phoenix Center 2606 Gregg St. 77020.

On June 14, Air Alliance Houston gave Fifth Ward residents training on the Flow2 air monitors for preparation to sample the air in their community.

Air Alliance Houston will provide 15 Flow two air monitors that the participants will use in this event. These air monitors can detect volatile organic compounds— a variety of gaseous chemicals, some of which may have short and long-term adverse health effects.

Air Alliance Houston will give graphs and maps of localized air quality snapshots when the data is collected. Those interested in the result can join the Zoom meeting on June 3. They will review the data collected from the Sunnyside, OST – South Union and the Fifth Ward communities.

This event aims to raise awareness regarding air pollution issues, generate more localized data around air quality in Houston, and support communities with air quality data to help advocate for change.

People who join this event will see happenings and hear the history in and about the historic Fifth Ward in commemoration of Juneteenth while monitoring the air throughout the area.

There will be a 1-mile walk, a 3-mile bike ride, and an 8-mile bike ride. Air Alliance Houston partner Houston Bicycle will offer bicycles and e-bikes to help those who do not have a bike.

Interested people can participate in this event by filling out a short form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfLOq4Uimm2lPj4gl9aO_kKBqRuTQoHrLhf8HB31MW4XiZ04g/viewform.

This event is free. However, if you want to support Air Alliance’s work to lower the public health impacts from air pollution and advance environmental justice, you can donate by clicking this link https://secure.airalliancehouston.org/a/donate.
