HOUSTON, TX — University of Houston Law Center celebrates the milestone of John M. O'Quinn Law Building with a "topping off" ceremony on June 4, 2021.

The "topping-off" ceremony took place in the new state-of-the-art John M. O'Quinn Law Building. Dean Leonard M. Baynes, the architects, University of Houston facilities, planning and construction group and the contractors who have worked hard to achieve this progress all attended the ceremony

Baynes expressed his gratitude to the contractors for having a fast progress by getting 38 days ahead of the schedule even in the middle of this pandemic. He also thanked The John M. O'Quinn Foundation, UH's Cornerstone Club members, UH's alumni, the state legislature and President Renu Khator for their generous donors for this construction. He believes without all of these supports, it would not come true.

Baynes also said that it is a wonderful thing to have all the renderings and drawings on paper to come alive. He hopes it could be a major step and could help them be more engaged with the Houston community.

In this project, Shepley Bulfinch has served as the architecture firm for The John M. O'Quinn Law Building and Austin Commercial, as the construction of facility.

The short video as a summary of this ceremony has been uploaded by University of Houston Law Center on their Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLWn8OJpZVw ), and seen on the video, Dean Leonard M. Baynes shares his thought about the progress. He also goes on a tour around the building construction together with the team.

The building will have 5 floors and be located between the current Law Center and the university lofts. It includes an event hall, courtroom, student lounge, convenience store, coffee bar and outdoor terrace for the students to enjoy the nice skyline view of the university.

Everyone expected the building to be open for the semester in Fall 2022. For more updates of the building, please visit this website https://www.law.uh.edu/.
