HOUSTON — The San Jacinto softball team brought another accomplishment this year as they finished third place at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament held in the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex, Yuma, Arizona, on May 25 to 29. Previously, the San Jac team has defeated Lamar State - Port Arthur (37-8) in the Region XIV Tournament to secure their fifth appearance in the national tournament.
The San Jac team was matched against Florida Southwestern State in the semifinal round before they sailed on to face Grayson. The softball team ended the season with a 43-10 overall score after winning the Region XIV tournament.
Head Coach Kelly Saenz expressed her amazement and respect for the entire team. She recognized the hard work and dedication put in her team as well as the achievement that follows, "These girls put everything they had into this season, facing some talented teams, to finish as one of the top three at the national tournament. I appreciate their dedication and work ethic throughout the entire season, and applaud them on a job well done."
San Jac's baseball team was ranked 11th place on NJCAA Softball Poll in Division I, with Salt Lake Community College coming on top, followed by Butter Community College - KS, and Florida Southwestern State College.
Sophomore Audrey Garcia became the team's top scorer, with two doubles, four runs, and 2 RBI. The softball team asserted that they would persevere and continue to better their performance through hard work and training.
