There are times when you just crave a good burger or some breakfast in a diner, right? Thankfully, there are some great diners in Coeur d'Alene. Here are the three best in town.

Jimmy's Down the Street

This restaurant has been at its current location in Downtown Coeur d'Alene for more than 70 years. Jimmy's Down the Street started as a neighborhood grocery, then turned into a small soda shop and finally became a breakfast restaurant. Through the years, 'Down The Street' has become synonymous with serving "homestyle" breakfast and lunch meals. Today, Jimmy's is definitely one of the best diners in town.

My wife and I had a great breakfast here on July 4th. We split the corned beef hash and eggs (+2 eggs on the side) and a famous pecan roll and both were delicious. My wife generally doesn’t like hash but loved it here! The staff was friendly and the service was good too. Although there were signs that the meals were prepared from scratch and could take time to cook, our order was on our table in 5-7 minutes after we ordered it. Definitely recommend this place for breakfast with families and friends. Kevin

Chomper Cafe

This restaurant is a locally-owned dream come true. Owner Sarah always wanted to open a restaurant and did so in 2015. She is proud to say that Chomper Cafe serves real, authentic food that she serves her own family. In fact, the cafe is named after her own son who has a nickname of "Chomper." The menu features classic breakfast foods such as cinnamon rolls, eggs, sausage, omelets, pancakes, french toast, waffles and much, much more!

Did a take-out breakfast during the COVID shut down. I was impressed with their large breakfast selection, with routine favorites but also many with a special twist. The bacon was perfect, the omelets were delicious, and there was a large selection of eggs Benedict ( our group didn't try though). It is located next to a park, an added bonus. Catherine

The Breakfast Nook

Family owned and operated, the Breakfast Nook has been in the restaurant business since the late 70's. Imagine all of your breakfast and diner favorites in one place such as eggs, hash browns, bacon and biscuits and gravy. But that's only a small part of the menu. You can order chicken fried steak, calamari steak, clams and top sirloin steak too! And if you're in the mood for a burger you won't be disappointed: you can order a patty melt, Hawaiian burger, chili and cheese burger or even a garden burger. There are so many choices!

We ate here twice, and these meals were among the best breakfasts we've had in years. The staff were great people, and the restaurant was nice and clean. I based our choosing this restaurant on an interstate trip strictly on best open restaurants in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and this was the second on the list. The first one looked like it might be hard to get seated, so this one won out, and it was definitely a superb choice. Pat

Have you ever ate at any of these diners?
