When we were kids, we used to hear that we could grow up to be whatever we wanted to be. We could become doctors, or astronauts, or police officers. And as we grow up, it seems less and less likely we could live our dreams. And yet, we still have a dream. What happens to most of us is our dreams either die or evolve. They change from a special job to a specific lifestyle. Sometimes the job is still part of the dream and other times it is not.
My wife and I have a dream. We dream of a house with some space, property, and open rooms. Around the house is a view with trees and outbuildings to make our own. Inside the house are rooms which fit us. And it’s perfect for our little family. We will have space to play, create, work and relax where we can live life to the fullest.
In our dream, we are thinking of “our space,” not the space of others. We are focused on what we want and work to make it a reality. This is part of living our best lives: knowing our priorities and taking advantage of the secrets to do it.
However, to get to our dreams we need to start building into them today. We can no longer put off until tomorrow. We need to plan and create goals for our lives. If there was ever a time to do those things, it is now. My wife and I have a dream and we spend time getting the details, praying, and dreaming together. But we are planning to see our dreams become a reality.
Building our Dreams
“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” — Colin Powell
While we unlock our passion and chase after our dreams, we start to realize something. It takes hard work. Really hard work. And it isn’t always fun. We will need to do push through adversity and have hard conversations. Hard work is the one thing we need to achieve our dreams. No dream is worth chasing or being called a dream if it doesn’t take hard work.
As we begin to chase after our dream life, we know a few things to be true. First, we need not only have the dream. We need to have a purpose for our dreams. What I am finding is how purpose helps bring our dreams into reality. Once we establish a purpose for our dreams it helps give us the ability to create the direction we need to start making them a reality.
However, what it really takes is the courage to take action.
Courage Leads to Action
“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” — Walt Disney
I have this picture in mind. My wife and I are forming plans and trusting God with them. But most of all, we need to have the courage to chase after those plans and to move from planning to action. Rarely, do we hear stories where people chased after a dream which was truly important to them and failed?
Most of the time, people are chasing the dreams of other people and then fail.
However, when you have a dream and have created the plans to achieve it, you have the opportunity to see dreams come true. And sometimes, we do pivot or change directions as we take action. And that is OK. In fact, it helps us know what we really want in life.
All we need is the courage to try. Otherwise, we will never know if we could have achieved our dreams. Why courage? Because fear tells us we cannot achieve our desired future. Well-Intentioned people in our lives will tell us to be realistic. And sometimes there will be hard circumstances we will face.
Do you have the courage to take action?
May 5, 2017
I launched a blog. I have dreamed of being a writer for years. The first blog I started was when I was still in college, 2008. That was ten years ago. And over the last ten years, I have created others, stopped blogging, started back up, and stopped again.
However, in April of 2017, I received an email from Jeff Goins. It was one of his autoresponders with a free product he was sharing. I downloaded it. And he told me it wasn’t too late to become a writer. As I read the free eBook, a spark was created and then a desire was encouraged by speaking with others.
My dream was alive and everything changed.
In May I got started. And I have been posting at least one time a week on my blog. As time went on, I started to write here on Medium and sharing my ideas on social media. I joined a couple of writing groups on Facebook.
And now, I am chasing after one of my greatest dreams. All because someone told me, even if it was a mass promotional, that I could chase my dream.
Today is Your Day
Do you have a dream you have always wanted to live out? Is there a desire stirring in your soul which is plaguing you every day to do? If you don’t do anything about it, those dreams will die. And one day, you will regret not taking action.
I give you permission to chase after your dreams.
Do it. Go for it. Make something happen. Why do you want to chase this dream? How are you going to accomplish it? Take action. You will not regret trying. No one ever does. IT IS YOUR TIME!
