Pizza, Pints, and More at Hustler’s Tavern

Of all the food pairings to go with a pint at the bar, pizza’s stellar handleability always makes it the ideal partner. A beer in one hand and a slice in the other balances out swimmingly, and Hustler’s Tavern in Lewiston, New York has the best of both. 

Pizza comes two ways at Hustler’s: New York style and Detroit style. Both options have a superb standard cheese pizza with crushed tomato house sauce, as well as the classic cheese and pepperoni. No matter one’s preference, the classic pizzas cannot be beat. 

There are also a number of New York style pizzas on the menu worth checking out too, like the Margherita, lemon ricotta, dill pickle with ranch and mozzarella, and the mushroom with fontina, garlic, olive oil, and a mix of shiitake and portobello mushrooms. A personal favorite is the perfectly spicy Buffalo chicken pizza with fresh chicken bits, pickled celery, red onion, and crumbled blue cheese. 

There are two additional main attractions for the Detroit style, both of which are equally tasty. The Sweet and Spicy features Sopressata amid a phenomenal harmony of cherry peppers, tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, and hot honey for that delicious sweet heat finish. Then the Stuffed Hungarian features packed full, house-made stuffed Hungarian peppers, mozzarella cheese, garlic, fennel, and Italian sausage for a savory finish every time.

“The Sweet and Spicy Sopressata is one of those pizzas you try for the first time and never forget,” said diner and local Niagara Falls resident Paul Kendall. “The cherry peppers are always fresh and the hot honey finish just completes it. Any of their pies are amazing, but that has got to be my all-time favorite.”

Make sure to check out the appetizers at Hustler’s Tavern too, like the rosemary truffle fries with garlic aioli, or the crispy candied pecan brussel sprouts. The chicken wings are always up to par, served in choice of fried or charred with sauces including mild, medium, hot, barbecue, blueberry hot, and golden barbecue. A personal favorite shareable sure to make any first-time visit memorable are the pork belly tacos, three delicious tacos with pickled onions, cilantro, cotija cheese, and chipotle aioli.
