Indian cuisine enthusiasts in the Southtowns of Western New York, your prayers have finally been answered. Taj of Orchard Park made their debut at Taste of Orchard Park this year, opening up their storefront just up the street on North Buffalo Road in Orchard Park, New York, and they stole the show with their phenomenal dishes and traditional cuisine.
Appetizers are plentiful and wonderful at Taj, with the samosas being a highlight for absolute certain. The baseball-sized, homemade samosas are an amazing value, stuffed with potatoes and green peas, as well as an array of Indian spices. The samosa shell is fried up nice and crunchy and then the phenomenal stuffing and spices just blend together in the perfect harmony of rich and wholesome flavors.
Another epic starter is the pyaz pakora, or onion fritters. Similar to onion rings for the unfamiliar, the fritters are a fried delicacy in a slightly sweet and salty batter. The pyaz pakora at Taj comes with a sweet red and spicy green sauce for dipping, both of which are superb.
For specialty items, the iconic chicken tikka masala is a great place to start. The mix of spicy and buttery is the perfect balance of epic flavor in the creamy red yogurt sauce. Featuring marinated chicken cubes, bell peppers, onions, and a topping of fresh herbs and spices, this is hands-down one of the best chicken tikka masala dishes in Western New York period.
A personal favorite of the entire summer, quite frankly, is the shahi paneer pasta. This delicious pasta dish features penne noodles, a tropical butter sauce, onions, garlic, ginger, green chilies, paneer, and cilantro for an out of this world good mix of sweet and heat. The paneer is crisped up just right, adding such depth of flavor, it is incredible.
Make sure to check out some of the awesome specialty naans at Taj too. The garlic naan is a must-try for any first-time diner, freshly baked in the tandoori with the garlic, then topped with fresh herbs for a perfect finish.
