With summer bringing everyone out of their dwelling and into the sun, outdoor activities are more sought out than ever. Together making up the Buffalo Waterfront Revival, Outer Harbor and sister locale, Canalside, in downtown Buffalo, New York have been continuously offering an outdoor retreat to Western New Yorkers throughout the years.

Offering up a plethora of healthy social activities and exercise opportunities to any who choose to attend, Outer Harbor is made up of over two hundred acres of green grass and wooded areas, making it one of the largest outdoor areas that is part of the bustling new downtown waterfront development.

The areas include more specific areas of the park, like Wilkeson Pointe, Lakeside Bike Park, the Independent Health Wellness Trail, and the Lakeside Event Lawn. Each locale highlights different events based on what geographic features are in each area, taking place on a set weekly schedule.

The Lakeside Bike Park Kiosk, for instance, has begun operating every Saturday and Sunday from eleven in the morning to seven in the evening and is now offering local Nick Charlap’s Ice Cream during the hours of operation, in addition to the three trails that are always open to the public. Also, on July 24 from noon to six in the evening, the bike park will be hosting its second Pop-Up Food Truck Series.

One of the most exciting new additions to the Outer Harbor line-up is the two free drive-in movie screening nights on July 17 and 31 with two movies each night. On July 17, “UP” will be playing at four in the afternoon, while “Jurassic Park” will play at eight in the evening. On July 31, “Toy Story” will be playing at four in the afternoon, while “The Breakfast Club” will play at eight in the evening. Tickets are required, free, and available through Outer Harbor’s website.

Though sparse of other scheduled events, one of the most important July happenings at Outer Harbor will take place at the Lakeside Event Lawn area on July 28 from six-thirty to eight-thirty in the evening. The Ronald McDonald House Charities Hybrid 5K Run is set to take place, where all proceeds from the run will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western New York.

Wilkeson Pointe has by and large the most scheduled events across Outer Harbor for the month of July, hosting the majority of the Outer Harbor Fitness, Fitness in the Parks, and other sports league activities. The Healthy Buffalo Volleyball League runs there from six-fifteen to nine in the evening on July 9, 16, 23, and 30, while the Game On! Kickball League also runs from six to seven in the evening on July 5, 6, 8, 12, 13, 15, 19, 22, 26, and 27.

The Fitness in the Parks series offers Yoga from six to seven in the evening on July 6, 13, 20, and 27, while they also offer a Zumba series from six to seven in the evening as well, on July 8, 15, 22, and 29.

The schedule for Outer Harbor Fitness classes are as follows: Outer Harbor Fitness: SowFit Hula-Hoop Class from nine to ten in the morning on July 4, 18, and 25, Outer Harbor Fitness: Tailored Fitness from ten to eleven in the morning on July 4, 11, 18, and 25, Outer Harbor Fitness: Love in Motion Yoga from ten to eleven in the morning on July 10, 17, 24, and 31, Outer Harbor Fitness: Shannon Connors Fitness from eleven in the morning to noon on July 10, 17, 24, and 31, Outer Harbor Fitness: Fit Like a Gladiator from nine to ten in the morning on July 11, Outer Harbor Fitness: Rev Bootcamp from eleven in the morning to noon on July 17, Outer Harbor Fitness: Garage Fitness from nine to ten in the morning on July 18, and Outer Harbor Fitness: BikeorBar from eleven in the morning to noon on July 24.
