The Batman, Film Review

Warner Bros. Pictures

The Batman (2022) ★★★½

Directed by Matt Reeves

Starring Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz

A completely new canon of Batman. Mat Reeves revives a new, grittier version of the dark knight in this dark twist on the superhero we know and love.

3.5 stars ⭐️ may be technically generous, but somehow, I couldn’t help but love this movie. I’d give it four stars, but that would be reaching a little too far.

Pattinson gives a notable performance, and that’s saying something following Bale and considering the long list of Batman’s preceding.

There are some visuals in this movie where I think, a professional just took control of the camera. The visuals were fine in every other scene, but someone else was definitely behind the camera in a few key moments.

The story gets distorted and messy early in act two, but I think it recovered, partially thanks to my enthusiasm while watching. Because honestly, this was BADASS. That Batman walks into a room like the dinosaur from Jurassic Park. THUMP. THUMP. THUMP. THE GROUND MIGHT AS WELL BE SHAKING. And when Pattinson threw his first punch of the movie in the full Bat Suit, I swear to you I threw a punch with him. I surprised myself! But that’s how INTO THIS MOVIE I was.

For that reason, this was one of my favorite movies of the year. But since I like to rate these on a (not entirely) objective scale, 3.5 is the highest I’ll go.

Worth watching. On HBO Max.
