A new restaurant has opened in the city of Cleveland.
Do you have fond memories of the restaurant the Campus Grille, which unfortunately closed its doors at the end of 2021? If the answer is a resounding yes, you might want to check out Hola Island Kitchens, which is a new restaurant from the owners of the Campus Grille.
Like the Campus Grille, Hola Island offers Caribbean cuisine, though the owners describe it as "a new concept that blends in flavors from the grille and what's going on now staying with fresh ingredients never frozen or processed" that's "abuela approved."
Hola Island had a soft opening on June 2, when they opened their doors to the public and allowed guests to visit the new dine-in space and sample items from the new menu. Then on June 5, the restaurant celebrated its grand opening.
The new restaurant's menu features items such as the island rice bowl, which comes with your choice of Spanish yellow rice or brown coconut rice, your choice of protein (the restaurant offers adobo chicken, pan-fried tofu, spicy Caribbean shredded steak, and shredded roasted pork shoulder), vegetarian black beans and/or pinto beans with pork, various toppings (topping options include feta cheese, jerked sweet potatoes, steamed vegetables, and more), and your choice of sauce. Sauce options include spicy pineapple and mango sauce, house-made hot sauce, Caribbean sauce, cilantro lime crema, and guava balsamic dressing.
The menu also has sandwiches like the Cleveland Cuban sandwich (which has slow roasted pulled pork, sliced ham, Ohio Swiss cheese, whole grain mustard, sliced pickles, and mayonnaise), spicy Jamaican cheesesteak (which has shaved steak that's cooked in a spicy Jamaican marinade, provolone cheese, roasted red peppers, sautéed onions, and your choice of sauce), and tripleta, which comes with shaved steak, roasted pork, sliced ham, provolone, potato sticks, and your choice of sauce.
If you need a vegetarian option, check out the Caribbean hummus and jerk sweet potato sandwich. This sandwich has the restaurant's Caribbean twist on hummus (which is made with blended chickpeas, pineapple, raisins, and carrots), jerk-seasoned sweet potatoes, seasonal greens, provolone, tomato, and your choice of sauce.
The restaurant also has savory and sweet empanadillas, all of which are made in-house. Savory options include beef with potatoes, adobo chicken, and spicy black bean with sweet plantains. Sweet options include sweet potato with marshmallow, apple, and guava and cheese.
If you want to visit the new restaurant, you can find it at 2235 E 55th St, Cleveland, OH 44103.
The restaurant is open 5 days a week, Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 4 PM.
