After starting as a food truck, El Viejon opened a new brick and mortar location earlier this month.
On March 4, El Viejon Mexican Bar & Grill celebrated its grand opening. As a food truck, El Viejon established a reputation for serving great Mexican food and aims to keep that reputation at its new restaurant.
El Viejon is known for its tacos, and the restaurant's menu has plenty of them. Check out their street tacos, which come with onion, cilantro, and your choice of meat. Meat options include steak, chicken, carnitas, al pastor, campechano, birria, fish, shrimp, tripe, and lengua (the last two options come with an upcharge).
The restaurant's menu also includes quesa-tacos (which are basically the street tacos plus melted cheese in between the tortillas), quesa-birria (which has a corn tortilla that is dipped in broth before being cooked on a grill and filled with shredded beef and melted mozzarella), pizza-birria (which is a super-sized version of the quesa-birria with three big flour tortillas and comes with a side of sour cream, jalapenos, green and red salsa, and consome), and quesadilla gringa (which is filled with cheese, marinated pork, grilled onions, and pineapple).
In addition, the restaurant has several seafood options including shrimp cocktail, shrimp and octopus cocktail, breaded tilapia, seafood molcajete (which has grilled shrimp, tilapia, octopus, crab meat, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, and panela cheese sautéed in the restaurant's homemade salsa), and ceviche.
El Viejon also makes chicken dishes such as mole poblano, pollo a la crema (which has grilled chicken breast that is covered in poblano peppers, mushrooms, and a cream sauce and comes with pico de gallo, lettuce, and rice), and pollo chipotle (which has grilled chicken that's sauteed with mushrooms and onions in chipotle sauce).
There are also steak dishes like carne asada and steak fundido (which is a NY strip steak topped with chorizo, melted cheese, mushrooms, and onions).
In addition to food, the restaurant offers drinks such as mojitos, martinis, pina coladas, and margaritas. And if you have room for dessert, they have churros, fried ice cream, and flan.
If you want to check out the restaurant, El Viejon Mexican Bar & Grill is located at 1045 S Reynolds Rd, Toledo, OH 43615.
The restaurant is open Monday to Thursday from 11 AM to 10 PM, Friday to Saturday from 11 AM to 11 PM, and Sunday from 11 AM to 9 PM.
