One of Greater Cleveland's most popular sushi restaurants is finally back in business and has made a return to Coventry's food scene.
At the end of last year, Pacific East—a restaurant in Cleveland Heights known for its Japanese and Malaysian dishes—had to close "due to unexpected circumstances." Repairs had to be made, and the restaurant had to do some remodeling.
For months, customers have been anxiously waiting for updates on the restaurant's reopening date. Thankfully, the wait is over, and on March 23 at 5:30 PM, the restaurant reopened.
Pacific East's menu includes a wide selection of sushi, which has garnered the restaurant acclaim and awards from major Cleveland publications. Customers enjoy the volcano, golden dream, and green dragon rolls. If you want a lot of sushi, consider getting the boat, bridge, or King & Queen platters, all of which come with various nigiri, sashimi, and rolls and can be shared. They also have other Japanese dishes such as katsu, teriyaki, and udon noodle soup.
It is also one of the few restaurants in the state to offer Malaysian dishes such as roti chanai (a ghee flatbread that's prepared on a griddle and that's dipped into a curry chicken sauce), laksa (a rich noodle soup that's prepared with coconut milk, seafood, eggs, tofu, chicken, bean sprouts, chili, and spices), prawn mee (a spicy noodle soup with a flavorful shrimp broth), and nasi lemak (coconut milk rice that's made with cloves and pandan leaves and that's served with sambal, anchovies, chicken rendang, cucumber, pan-fried peanuts, and a hard-boiled egg).
It's also one of the few restaurants in Ohio to offer Hainanese chicken, which is simmered bone-in chicken that's covered with sesame oil and soy sauce. The dish is served with seasoned rice, chili sauce, and ginger sauce.
In addition to Japanese and Malaysian cuisine, Pacific East offers bubble teas and smoothies that come in a variety of different flavors. They also offer a variety of Japanese sakes, wine, and beer.
