Looking for a Delicious Breakfast in Greater Cleveland? You Should Check Out This Place in Independence, Ohio
After taking a long walk in the morning, I was hungry. I live in a westside suburb of Cleveland, so I tend to stick to joints on the westside due to convenience and, nowadays, soaring gas prices.
But because it was Friday and I was in a treat-yo'-self mood, I decided to venture a little further east and get breakfast at a restaurant in Independence, Ohio.
I went to Scratch, a place that prides itself on untraditional breakfasts. Their motto is, "If you were thinking traditional, think again!"
To break my fast, I got a dish from the sweet side of their menu, the banana and bourbon caramel pudding French toast with a side of pork belly.
Not only was my breakfast unique and untraditional, but it was also utterly delicious.
Instead of the typical slices of white bread, my slices of French toast were made with a wonderful bread pudding. The bread pudding pieces were covered in a bourbon caramel sauce that was rich, not overly sweet, and yummy. The French toast was also topped with little slices of fresh banana and came with maple-syrup-infused whipped cream that was also delicious and that almost felt like ice cream.
My pork belly was also great. It was perfectly cooked, crisp, and thick.
Although the French toast slices appeared to be small, they were dense and incredibly filling. I ate breakfast at 10 AM, and I was still full from my meal past 3 PM.
In addition to the food being delicious, the service at Scratch was also great. Though the restaurant was busy, my server was still friendly and attentive, and my meal came out quickly.
To make things even sweeter (pun intended), with every order of the banana and bourbon caramel pudding French toast, Scratch donates a dollar to Cleveland's homeless community.
If you find yourself in Independence and are looking for a place to get breakfast, skip the chains like Bob Evans or Denny's. Try a locally-owned restaurant. And if you think you'll enjoy a unique take on French toast, may I suggest Scratch?
Scratch is located at 6595 Brecksville Rd, Independence, OH 44131.
