Since getting an alarmingly high blood pressure reading the other day (my numbers were in the danger zone), I've been trying to eat healthier and exercise more. It's been a struggle to ignore the siren's call of delicious (but unhealthy) food like sodium-heavy burgers and fries. And admittedly, I have given in to the siren's call more than once.
But my blood pressure numbers seem to be getting better, if the machine at my grocery store is to be believed.
Last week, instead of treating myself to a burger and fries, I decided to treat myself to sushi, a much more heart-healthy meal.
I went to Umi Sushi, a restaurant in Middleburg Heights, Ohio that's located in a small strip mall.
I was feeling somewhat extravagant, so I got the sashimi platter for $23.75, which isn't a bad price for 18 pieces of sashimi. And it especially isn't a bad price considering the quality of the sashimi I got.
The sashimi platter came with a bowl of miso soup and a house salad, both of which were good. I especially liked the ginger dressing on the house salad. Ginger can be a polarizing flavor for me, but I thought Umi Sushi's dressing had just the right amount of ginger.
Like pretty much everywhere else, Umi Sushi was a little short-staffed, so I ended up waiting a bit for my sashimi platter. But my friendly server was great, and she made sure to check up on me and refill my glass of water a couple of times.
And my sashimi platter turned out to be more than worth the wait. When it arrived, I was wowed by the gorgeous presentation. It was almost too pretty to eat. But I was hungry, so immediately after taking a picture of my platter, I dug into my meal.
Every piece of fish was fresh and delicious. There were pieces of salmon, tuna, octopus, yellowtail, and what I think were scallops (the white fish in the top picture). Whether or not they were scallops, they were delicious, and I could've had another sashimi platter easily.
However, since I'm trying to eat healthier and be more frugal, I stopped at the one platter, which along with the miso soup, house salad, and small bowl of white rice, made for a very satisfying meal.
Umi Sushi is located at 7558 Pearl Rd, Middleburg Heights, OH 44130.
