After writing in the Lakewood Public Library for a couple of hours (though to be honest, at least half of those hours consisted of playing Pokemon Go), I was hungry, so my friend and I went out and looked for some grub in the neighborhood.
After passing by a couple of restaurants, we settled on Melt Bar and Grilled, a local chain that's known for selling gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches (the location in Lakewood is the original spot). With my lactose intolerance, I probably should've chosen another place, haha, but though I've never gone to Melt Bar and Grilled before, I've heard lots of Ohioans say good things about their food. Also, this would hardly be the first time I disregarded my body's lactose sensitivity for the sake of food (and it would hardly be the last time).
I contemplated getting the restaurant's signature grilled cheese, but I wasn't feeling that masochistic, so I opted for the Cleveland Cheese Steak sandwich, which still contained plenty of oh-so-delicious but oh-so-bad-for-my-body cheese. I got the whole sandwich instead of the half because of course, I did.
The sandwich was a hefty boy, packed with pulled beef brisket, garlic mushrooms, sautéed onions, rosemary onion aioli, and melted provolone. I bit into the sandwich...
And it was a tasty boy as well.
The beef brisket was tender and flavorful, and the rosemary onion aioli added a delicious moistness. The bread was grilled well and wonderfully greasy (you definitely have to use a lot of napkins when you're eating this!).
My fries were also good, crispy and not overly salty.
By the end of my meal, I was stuffed and happy. When I got home, I certainly felt the effects of the provolone cheese. But was the cheesesteak sandwich worth it? Absolutely.
And who knows? In the future, I might be masochistic enough to go for the grilled cheese sandwich at Melt Bar and Grilled, but I bet it'd be worth the pain.
The original Melt Bar and Grilled is located at 14718 Detroit Ave, Lakewood, OH 44107. For other locations in the Cleveland area, go to their website.
