I am a shameless freebie seeker. When something is free, I will snatch it up, even when the freebie is of dubious quality.
So when my grocery store offered a coupon for a free can of Coca-Cola with Coffee, I had to get it.
I took a sip…then grimaced.
The drink isn’t good. I mean, it isn’t horrible — I managed to drink the whole can — but it made me wish I was drinking just Coca-Cola or just coffee instead.
And it makes me think that the folks at Coca-Cola are rather pretentious or borderline delusional.
From Coca-Cola’s website:
“This is a truly unique hybrid innovation that will pioneer a new category we’re calling refreshment coffee,” said Jaideep Kibe, vice president, Coca-Cola Trademark, Coca-Cola North America…
My head hurts from rolling my eyes so hard.
“Coca-Cola® With Coffee is a product that is meant to be tried,” he added. “Because when you take that first sip, you realize there’s nothing quite like it... It sips like a Coke and finishes like a coffee.”
He’s not totally wrong. When I took my first sip, I did think that there’s nothing quite like it — but I also thought there is no reason why it should exist 😏
Also from the website:
“The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the need for us to be more disciplined in how we launch, validate, refine and scale up big bets like this,” said Javier Meza, chief marketing officer for The Coca-Cola Company’s sparkling beverage portfolio.
Seriously, THAT’S the lesson you got from the COVID-19 pandemic?
Perhaps I wasn’t in the right mood to enjoy the beverage. I did start off the morning by reading articles about climate change and how we’re basically all screwed, so maybe I wasn’t in the right mindset to enjoy this “truly unique hybrid innovation.”
Still, I don’t think I’ll be spending any money on future cans of Coca-Cola with Coffee.
