Can You Really Pilot this Air Vessel Without a License?

Even A Simpleton Like Me Can Fly This Vehicle

Several innovations have been made about eVTOL (electrical vertical take-off and landing) vehicles as of late. Ryse Aero Tech’s eVTOL is pretty simplistic in its approach and designed with non-flyers in mind. The Recon (pictured above) can be flown with minimal training and in areas with very little room for take-off or landing.

First, a little information on Ryse Aero Tech, based out of Mason, Ohio. Mick Kowitz is the President and CEO of the company, which aims to bring electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to the market for the masses. In Ryse Aero Tech’s own words:

We make electric VTOL aircraft for people with places to go and things to do. We help our customers seize the opportunity in flight that has only recently become a possibility.

As previously stated, the RECON was designed considering that most people are not pilots. When piloting this eVTOL, it will feature advanced artificial intelligence assistance and will have simplistic cockpit controls. The RECON is designed for one individual with a top speed of 63mph and a range of 25 miles. There are a few unknowns, such as maximum height (altitude) and actual flight time, as the battery situation is a moving target. We know the batteries will be easily removable and replaceable, much like non-manned drones today.

As you can see in the picture, six propellers are accompanied by six individual motors to power those propellers. Given a total of 6 motors on the Recon, there is automatically a certain amount of safety inherent within the design. If any propeller or motor should fail, the remaining working motors and propellers will ensure a safe landing. Expect to pilot this craft in decent weather, as it is an open cockpit that exposes the pilot to the elements.

As mentioned before, the Recon requires very little space for take-off and landing, but more importantly, it can land on either land or water. The water piece of the equation is highly convenient, given a majority of Earth is covered in this life-giving liquid.

Ryze promises the RECON will be cost-effective and low maintenance on par with most electric vehicles in this class. They also expect the Recon to be used for private, commercial, and government use, with tasks that include:

  1. personal daily transportation
  2. recreational use
  3. agriculture
  4. ranching
  5. land surveying
  6. tourism
  7. search and rescue
  8. logistics

Ryse Aero Tech is looking to release the RECON for sale in the first quarter of 2023. The company has mentioned the unit will be both lightweight and affordable; there is no definitive weight or price available for this means of transport as of today. Stay tuned for future updates!
