Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a significant U.S. day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. This annual celebration is held on June 19th, and marks the day when in 1865 news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas.
