Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a significant U.S. day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. This annual celebration is held on June 19th, and marks the day when in 1865 news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas. Ending the era of slavery in the Confederacy.
It’s a time to reflect on the resilience, struggles, and achievements of African Americans in this country throughout history, while also showcasing the ongoing pursuit of equality and justice. In recent years, this piece of American history has become widely celebrated and just last year became an official national holiday.
In celebration, the Juneteenth Music Festival will be held in Denver, Colorado in the Historic Five Points Neighborhood.
