On July 10, 2020, a Five Guys restaurant sparked controversy across social media after an incident took place involving a group of employees that refused to serve three police officers. With the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers, police in the US at that time faced massive scrunity.
Five Guys Statement
Five guys released a statement in part, regarding the issue. "Five Guys and the Daphne, AL franchise want to thank the Daphne Police Department for their support in working together toward a resolution. The actions the Daphne, AL franchise have taken include termination and suspension of the employees involved."
What Do People Think?
Some people were quite outspoken on the incident. One person wrote, "The hamburgers are overpriced for the quality, so it’s simple for me. No more 5 Guys. I realize that it was not the corporate or even local manager policy, but they should be made to pay a price. If a manager does not show his beliefs to his employees then they take it upon themselves to set policy. In my mind, these employees were a disgrace. I am a very vindictive person, I understand that it is wrong, but that is where we are today. You have to decide who’s wing you are under. If I were the mayor, I would be looking into ways to make sure this never happens again."
Another wrote, "Refusing to serve someone? That's discrimination."
