More Than 300 Indian-Americans Celebrate Diwali On Capitol Hill

Over 300 members of the Indian American community representing multiple religious, business, and advocacy groups gathered at the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington D.C. to celebrate Diwali. The organizations involved in the celebrations included BAPS Public Affairs, the Hindu American Foundation (HAF), the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), the American Jewish Committee (AJC), and the U.S. India Security Council Inc.

Multiple members of Congress joined in the celebrations, including Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17), Rep. Shri Thanedar (MI-13), Rep. Deborah Ross (NC-02), Rep. Brad Sherman (CA-32), Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13), Rep. Matt Cartwright (PA-08) and Rep. Jim Costa (CA-21). Ohio state Senator Niraj Antani was also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Rep. Khanna said, “The principles of Diwali – the triumph of good over evil, the triumph of righteousness, the importance of doing your duty – are good reminders to people of all faiths.”
