1 dead after car crashes into the James River

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — One is dead following a single-vehicle crash that landed in the James River in Amherst County on Sunday evening.

At 6:49 p.m., Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash in Amherst County.

A vehicle traveling in the 500 block of River Road ran off the road, struck a tree and then overturned into the James River.

The vehicle was pulled from the water at approximately 8:52 p.m.

There is one confirmed fatality and the crash remains under investigation.

The people who called it in said they never saw a person get out of the vehicle, Amherst County Dispatch said.

Monelison Fire, Amherst County Fire, Unit Deputies, and the Lynchburg Swift Water Team responded to the scene at 520 River Road.
